Sydney Equisse
Sydney Esquisse was first held in 2003. The aim was to show how art and design contribute to everyday life in our city. Visitors could see product design, furniture, graphics, fashion, photography, interiors, video, sound, architecture, sculpture, painting and endless ideas.
This festival transformed Sydney’s areas of Surry Hills and Redfern into a multiple-site show case. It was the first of its kind in Australia and featured more than 50 Australian and International designers and artists, involve over 30 venues (including a central venue, the “Launch Pad”), and host many awards, competitions, parties and auctions.
Sydney Esquisse was not a design-for-designers event, but rather an attempt to communicate to both the creative community and the wider public audience how creativity relates, explores and contributes to the culture in which we live. This event provided designers and artists with a platform to develop and grow ideas, relationships and discussion and to evolve the cultural landscape of Sydney and Australia.
Sydney Esquisse was everyone’s opportunity to experience design and art beyond the usual functional and commercial rules of the game.
